Bobbi aligned with the world of homeschooling nine years ago while working at the WISE (Waldorf Independent School of Edmonton) both as a part time supply teacher and enrichment teacher, while also balancing motherhood. During this time, her daughter was beginning kindergarten at the WISE. Although Bobbi was delighted to be teaching in a classroom environment and intently learning the Waldorf teaching philosophy, an opportunity to adopt a homeschool facilitator position at the WISE presented itself, and the idea of working with families and growing the WISE homeschool community captured her interest. Bobbi had also gathered previous teaching experience as a kindergarten teacher in a Caraway program and a supply teacher within Edmonton Public Schools and various alternative schools. She was eager to share all that she had learned with the homeschool families, while also becoming curious about homeschooling and how families navigate their individual learning journeys. Bobbi has been fortunate to have worked with so many wonderful homeschool families, and she has also been blessed to homeschool her daughter for a time.
Bobbi comes from a dance and fitness background, and, although it seems like a lifetime ago, dancing was a major part of her life growing up, In between graduating from high school and entering university, Bobbi danced in a junior ballet company in Vancouver, called the Goh Ballet. Bobbi has always valued living an active lifestyle and this inspired her to complete her first degree in Physical Education at the University of Alberta. Upon graduating, she worked in the areas of exercise therapy, fitness consulting and instructing fitness programs and Pilates, as she was inspired to teach and connect with people on a personal level to help them reach their wellness goals. Bobbi eventually returned to the University of Alberta to complete a second degree in Education, which led her on the path of teaching in schools and eventually settling into homeschool facilitation.
Recently, she joined the By Design homeschool board and she is honored to work alongside many wonderful homeschool facilitators. Over the years as a homeschool facilitator, Bobbi has observed that to live is to learn and to learn is to live. It is the real life experiences that deepen our learning and the exploration of something new that can enliven us.
Outside her work as a homeschool facilitator, Bobbi enjoys the adventures of motherhood and spending time with her family. During her spare moments, she reveres nature while walking in the trails, bike riding, skating, cross country skiing, and spending time at the lake or in the mountains.
