The Learning Workshop Reading department utilizes two different reading programs. It is at the discretion of the instructor to assess, evaluate, and determine which program, or combination of the two, would best meet the needs of each individual student. The reading programs are as follows:
LLI is an intervention program that provides intensive, small-group instruction, which supplements classroom literacy teaching. LLI turns struggling readers into successful readers with engaging leveled books and fast-paced, systematically- designed lessons. This program is most commonly used with our higher second grade students, as well as those in grades 3-5.
SPIRE is a multi-sensory reading intervention program based on the Orton-Gillingham approach. Phonological awareness, phonics, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing are addressed in every lesson. This program is most commonly used with our first and second grade students.
