Review: La France et ses régions - Recall names of French regions and where they are located, review geography of France.

UNIT 1: ENTERTAINMENT (LES SPECTACLES)
Theme: Contemporary Life (Leisure and Sports)
Theme: Beauty and Aesthetics (Music, Performing Arts)
Activities:
Use vocabulary of cinema and theater and talk about favorite actors.
Talk about art and museums in Paris.
Recognize famous French actors and singers.
Culture: Watch video clips of French movies, focus on French actors famous in the United States.
Text: Influence of world music in France, "La fête de la musique". Compare/contrast singers and musicians in France and in the United States and write about the cultural aspects of French music.
Review of present and past tense (passé composé), agreement of past participle.
Add adjectives to describe actors', singers' performances and linking words for paragraph length paragraphs.
UNIT 2: SPORTS (LES SPORTS)

Activities:
Use vocabulary of sports
Culture: Watch video clips about several sports culturally important in France: tennis, soccer, rugby, and pétanque. Discuss "Le tour de France" and its international following.
Watch video "Le ballon prisonnier" and discuss youth sports and compare cultural importance of sports in France and in the United States.
Identify sports as an important part of the economy. Compare French/American athletes and their salaries. Discuss rankings and salary amounts.
Introduce study of direct and indirect object pronouns and add pronouns y and en. Identify syntax and rules of agreement in past tense.
UNIT 3: LA ROUTINE QUOTIDIENNE (OUR BODY, HYGIENE, AND DAILY ROUTINE)

Activities:
Talk about your personal daily routine. Use vocabulary of bathroom items, names of toiletries, and reflexive verbs to explain how to get ready.
Use medical terms and parts of body to explain where it hurts and to talk about poor health.
Cultural comparison between French and American schools of yesteryear. Use vocabulary of school items in context.
Project: «L'école d'autrefois», interview of a grandparent: his/her elementary school experience.
Movie: «Être et avoir», cultural comparison between a French rural school and own Summit school.
Using both past tenses write paragraphs to explain cultural differences.
Use reflexive pronouns and verbs to present personal routine. Use past tenses (passé composé and imparfait) to explain daily routine while attending elementary school.
Use pronominal verbs (reflexive and reciprocal). Identify use of pronouns with reflexive verbs in present and past tense (passé composé). Analyze rules of agreement of past participle. Add new verb tense: l'imparfait.

Read cultural texts about 6 French speaking countries in Africa.

Read 3 tales from Niger. Analyze cultural content of stories and compare with the United States.
Use future and conditional verb tenses with “quand” and “si” clauses (propositions conditionnelles) to talk about some African animals and their transformations in the tales.
