Students may earn up to four (4) Visual Art credits to receive an art elective focus. Each class may only be taken one time. Art history is included throughout the term and relates to each class project, to a variety of cultures, and to different time periods.
Visual Art 1
Prerequisites: None
This class is for beginning art students. A thorough grounding in art history and elements such as perspective, shading, color theory and application are some of the areas that are presented. This is not a craft class but academic in scope with written tests and final examinations.
Visual Art 2 (Drawing & Painting)
Prerequisites: Visual Art 1
Visual Art 2 is a continuation of Art I. It is for the serious, selfmotivated student, who wants advanced studio time for creating art. Students in this class will follow a curriculum of both assigned problems and independent studies. Students will develop more in-depth skills in drawing, painting and design, reflect upon the outcomes of their work, explore historical connections, and explore career options.
Visual Art 3 (Sculpture & Pottery)
Prerequisites: Visual Art 1, Visual Art 2
This course provides a comprehensive study in methods of sculpture, hand-built clay construction and basic wheel throwing techniques. Students explore three dimensional design while developing both useful and sculptural forms. Creativity and quality craftsmanship are emphasized.
AP Studio Art - Drawing & 3D Design
Prerequisites: Visual Art 1, Visual Art 2, Visual Art 3
The AP Studio Art Program consists of three portfolio exams—2-D Design, 3-D Design, and Drawing—corresponding to the college foundation courses. Portfolios allow flexibility of coursework while guiding students to produce college-level quality, artistic investigation, and breadth of work. The Drawing portfolio addresses issues such as line quality, light and shade, rendering of form, composition, surface manipulation, the illusion of depth, and mark-making. Students' portfolios demonstrate skills and ideas developed, refined, and applied throughout the course to produce visual compositions. Students may choose to submit any or all of the portfolios. Portfolios are evaluated based on standardized scoring descriptors aligned with skills and understanding developed in college foundation courses.

Media Arts 1 (Introduction to Digital Photography & Graphic Design)
Prerequisite: None
This course explores the commercial aspects of art. Techniques include freehand drawing, lettering, painting, and computer-enhancement for commercial advertising, posters, and illustrations. In this course you will learn the basics of digital photography including, photography equipment, instruction in the history of photography, design, rules of composition, and career options in photography, along with commercial and personal applications. Students must have the ability to download various free media arts related products products to complete the coursework.
Media Arts 2 (Digital Photography & Graphic Design)
Prerequisite: Media Arts 1 (Must have scored a C or better in Media Arts 1)
Students will enhance their abilities in freehand drawing, lettering, painting, and computer-enhanced artwork like posters, book covers, and illustrations. You will also enhance your photographic abilities inside and outside the classroom. Some projects will include Landscape pictures and illustrations, Outdoor Portraits, Studio Portraits and Product Photography. It is strongly recommended to own a phone with a camera or have a personal digital camera.
Media Arts 3 (Advanced Digital Photography & Graphic Design)
Prerequisite: Media Arts 1 & 2 (Must have scored a B or better in Media Arts 1 & 2)
If Digital Photography & Graphic design 2 inspired you, this course will take you deeper into the world of graphic design and digital photography. You will study aesthetic and technical theories while at the same time letting you develop a personal photographic vision and style. Students will explore advanced digital camera and image editing software and apps. Students will use their won creative expression to implement personal projects that result in a portfolio of quality images. It is strongly recommended to won a phone with a camera of have a personal digital camera.
AP Studio Art - 2D Design
Prerequisite: Media Arts 1, 2, & 3 (Must have scored a B or better in Media Arts 1, 2, & 3)

Marching Band (Fall)
Prerequisites: Ability to play a band instrument. If not a member of middle school band, instructor approval is required.
This class is composed of students from all grade levels. The band performs at football games, community events, marching competitions, parades, and music festivals. A required band camp is held each summer
Concert Band (Spring)
Prerequisites: Same requirements as Marching Band.
Students participate in concerts and numerous community events.
Percussion 1 (Fall)
Prerequisites: Students must be able to play a percussion instrument. If not a member of middle school band, instructor approval is required.
This class requires an audition process to determine the percussion instrument to be played. This class is composed of students from all grade levels. Students perform at football games, marching competitions, parades, and numerous community events. A required band camps is held each summer.
Percussion 2 (Spring)
Prerequisites: Students must be able to play a percussions instrument. If not a member of middle school band, instructor approval is required.
Students in the course will perform in two ensemble concerts, two concert band concerts, and numerous community events. Students will learn techniques for playing a wide range of percussion instruments and will learn about music and cultures from around the world.
Jazz Ensemble (Spring)
Prerequisites: Must be enrolled in concert band to be in the Jazz Band. Students must have a background and be proficient on a wind instrument, drum set, percussion instruments (mallets, congas, etc.), piano, guitar, or electric bass.
The Jazz Ensemble is a performing group. This course also focuses on the only music to have originated in America through the study of jazz history, theory, style, and performance. Reading texts and music, listening and watching recordings, and playing an instrument will be required for this course.
Color Guard (Fall)
Prerequisites: Auditions held each spring
The Color Guard is the visual unit of the marching band. Emphasis is placed on accurate execution of flag/weapon techniques and dance movements that are appropriate for a marching band show. Winter Guard is a performing ensemble that uses the techniques learned in marching band to participate in competitions in the spring. A required band camp is held each summer.
Mixed Chorus 1
Prerequisites: None
This course is for freshman students with an interest in singing and learning how to read music. The students will participate in vocal performances throughout the semester. This course can be repeated for multiple credits.
Mixed Chorus 2
Prerequisites: None
This course is designed for students in grades 10-12 who are either beginning or have one semester of vocal music. Students will learn to read music and sing a variety of music selections at performances throughout the semester. This course can be repeated for multiple credits.
Music Theory & Harmony
Prerequisite: None
Students will study the building blocks of music. Students will read and write music, theoretical concepts of scales and tones, chord structure, and analyze of music.
Small Ensemble (Year-long only)
Prerequisite: Must have been in band in middle school
This class will be for band members wishing to participate in solos and ensembles throughout the year. We will practice solos, duets, trios, etc. and preform at various functions throughout the year.
Bluegrass
Prerequisite: Enrollment by audition only / must be intermediate level on his or her instrument.
This course centers on the studying, performing and learning gospel & bluegrass music through sight-reading and theory. Students need to won or purchase a guitar or other bluegrass instrument for class.
A Cappella (10-12 / Year long only)
Prerequisite: Enrollment by audition only
This class is an all a cappella group designed for vocally advanced singers who can sight-read and can sing any part. Some required performances.
Patriotic Singers (10-12)
Prerequisite: Enrollment by audition only
This class is designed for vocally advanced men and women who have been chosen by audition to participate in learning at a more progressive level with challenging music . Some required performances.
Musical Theater (Fall)
Prerequisite: None
This course is for the student that is interested in Musical Theatre – both on stage and “behind the scenes”. Students will have the opportunity to rehearse, perform, direct, and choreograph/stage various scenes and shows. Attending all performances is required.
Theater Arts 1
Prerequisite: None
This elective course is offered to students who to fulfill a performing arts credit for college. This course will introduce students to the techniques used by actors/singers to play general theater scenes believably, honestly and dynamically.
Theater Arts 2
Prerequisite: Theater Arts 1 or teachers approval
An introduction to the technical aspects of live theater, exploring both traditional and modern approaches. Topics include the stage and its equipment, materials and construction of scenic and property items, lighting, sound, rigging, design, stage management, and more. Attending all performances is required.
Theater Arts 3 (Technical Theater)
Prerequisite: Theater Arts 2
A continuation of theater 2, this course is a continuation of the technical aspects of live theater, exploring both traditional and modern approaches. Students are responsible for all set, costume and prop design for all theater productions for the year. Students will be designing, painting, using tools such as hammers, nails, hand saws, drills, and battery-powered screwdrivers. Students will be involved in light and sound design as well. After the proper instruction, students will take a safety test in order to use necessary tools to design.
Theater Arts 4 (Forensics Team)
Prerequisite: Enrollment by audition only
This course is a continuation of the study of Musical Theater, building on the curriculum of Acting for Musical Theater I. Forensics is a drama competition team for individual and group events. Attending competitions is required.
