Computer Applications is an examination of the development of computing technology and terminology. Topics include: identification of the functional components of a computer system; powering up a microcomputer; using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation graphics; the proper handling of computer media; and an exploration of the uses of electronic mail and graphical Internet. Introduction to Sports Medicine and Sports Event Management(Teacher Recommended)11th/12th grades
Instructor: James C McWherter ATC/LAT and Coach Dyer-This course will give students a basic understanding of the field of Sports Medicine and Sports Event Management. Students will participate in both classroom and out of classroom activities involving working with Sullivan East athletes, coaches, staff, and fans. Students will be require to complete 20 hours of participation outside of regular school hours. Activities outside of the classroom will consist of aiding the Athletic Training staff with prevention, care, and treatment of athletic injuries as well as setting up and taking down equipment on Sullivan East athletic fields and courts. Students will learn basic athletic training skills such as taping, injury treatment and prevention. Students will learn athletic event setups and management involving visiting team escort, maintaining hydration supplies, sound and audio management, and maintaining a safe playing surface.
IT Troubleshooting and Repair-Year long Only - 11th/12 grades (Teacher Recommended)
This course will focus on instructional training on the aspects of information technology. Students will learn how to set up computer workstations and their peripheral devices, maintain those workstations in good working order, troubleshoot problems with regards to both software and hardware issues and learn how to fix problems if and when they occur.
Technology will focus on Windows, Apple, and Chromebook devices so students will understand differences in the operating systems and how hardware maintenance is performed for each type of device. Students will also assist in maintaining and updating proper inventory records for technology and assist with social media in regards to promote different aspects of campus life.
The History of WWII- Year long only
The purpose of this course is to provide the students with a broad view and comprehensive understanding of World War II as a global event. The course will cover the war’s causes, conduct, and consequences. It will cover the war from the perspective of the European theatre, Pacific theatre, U.S. home-front, and the Holocaust. The course will define the changes to the U.S. both during and after the war.
Geography- Year long only
Students will examine the global perspectives, basic concepts, and fundamental questions of geography. Students will focus on the ways through which all places on Earth are interconnected and how the human use of Earth's surface varies over space. Topics studied in the course include physical processes, human populations and migration, regions of the world, resources, and the tools used by modern geographers.
