The alto saxophone is part of the woodwind family, even though it is shiny like brass instruments. The saxophone uses a single reed to play, just like a clarinet. The reed is placed on a mouthpiece, which is then blown into. Keys cover holes to make different notes. There are 5 sizes of saxophones: soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and bass. Students in 4th grade play the alto saxophone.
