SU76 is dedicated to meeting the Instructional needs of our students. Our goal is to provide your child with the best education possible in school and from home. For remote learning to be successful, we will need this to be a collaborative effort between families, students, and teachers. We hope the information on this website will be helpful for parents supporting student learning from home.

The following are some quick reminders of what is expected on a daily basis. Please refer to the Expectations for Students and Parents for more in-depth information.

Parents: Support your remote learners:

  • Create a quiet, safe, and activity free workspace.

  • Help your child be responsible for technology and other school materials needed to be successful.

  • Limit the camera view to the student while they are engaged in real-time learning.

  • Review your child’s schedule and coursework on Google Classroom every day.

  • Maintain an awareness of your child’s progress and challenges.

  • Communicate questions and concerns to your child’s teacher or the principal.

During remote learning, it is crucial to understand that while students may be joining their classes from home, they are in class with other students and teachers even though they are remote.

Students: Asynchronous (self-directed) expectations:

  • Create a routine which allows for engagement in school work.

  • Check email and Google Classroom for assignments and information every day.

  • Engage independently with the assignments posted by teachers.

  • Complete your work with your best effort and on time.

  • Be responsible with school technology and materials.

  • Be in regular contact with your teachers and advisor or homeroom teacher.

  • Communicate questions or concerns quickly to your teachers or the principal.

Students: Synchronous (real-time online) expectations:

  • Be on time, dressed and ready to engage in scheduled classes and meetings.

  • Be prepared with technology charged and materials needed.

  • Use the headset provided by the school during class in order to be heard and to eliminate background noise.

  • Keep the camera ON during class.

  • Remain muted unless speaking during class.

  • Complete daily assignments with best effort and on time.

  • Participate in all classes, including Specials, if that is your family’s decision, as able and appropriate.

  • Honor mindful and respectful classroom behavior as established by the teacher and outlined in the student handbook.

  • Communicate with teachers when questions come up as it is a “two-way” street.

Online Learning Terms and Definitions

Asynchronous Students do not “attend” class at a set time, but rather, access pre-recorded lectures and digital curriculum materials and respond through email, discussion boards, social networking, and collaborative documents at a time of their own choosing.

Synchronous learning refers to all types of learning in which learner(s) and instructor(s) are in the same place, at the same time, in order for learning to take place. This includes in-person classes, live online meetings with the whole class or smaller groups.

Remote learning, which is synonymous with e-learning, takes place online. Both students and instructors interact via two-way communication technologies.

Distance learning, is the education of students who may not always be physically present at a school and where the student corresponds with the school digitally.

A concurrent classroom, has people online and in person in the same class at the same time.

Blended learning is a method of teaching that integrates technology and digital media with traditional instructor-led classroom activities, giving students more flexibility to customize their learning experiences.

Online learning is education that takes place over the Internet. It is often referred to as “e- learning” among other terms. However, online learning is just one type of “distance learning” - the umbrella term for any learning that takes place across distance and not in a traditional classroom.

Hybrid learning combines face-to-face and online teaching into one cohesive experience. Approximately half of the class sessions are on-campus, while the other half have students working online.
