Traverse your way through an abandoned Nuclear facility and destroy the reactor from the inside!
This game was created for a class the beginning of my Junior year in college.
While we did not have time to finish it (mostly lighting and sounds are incomplete) we are still proud of what we were able to achieve and wanted to showcase it here!
When it comes to VR, location based experiences are my favorite. For this project we wanted to tackle trying to implement large scale tracking into a VR project!
Here is the room in which we had to work with to create this experience.Â
We used a series of Valves lighthouse V2's as well as a Valve Index!
Originally we had 6 base stations, but we found that alligning 8 in this orientation gave us the best tracking with the most space we were allowed to use!
For location based experiences, being tethered to a wall is not an option. To get around this, we bough a portable battery pack and placed it and a laptop inside of a backpack to allow for an untethered experience!
Here is early footage of my professor trying out our experience as I push a battery pack and laptop behind him. I am crouched down as to not get in the way of the trackers!!
While we only had a 15x30 foot play area, I was able to come up with solutions in order to give the user the illusion of a much bigger space.
I used a series of overlapping room to make the user feel like they were walking in a much larger area!
Here a similar technique is implemented. Using a series of shaders, the illusion of multiple overlapping rooms is created.
