Ghosts of the Argonne is a research project started by my professor, Dr. Nathan Prestopnik. In this project we seek to recreate the historical interaction of a WWI era artillery crew using the French 75 cannon.
I was the lead 3D modeler for this project. One of the main models I worked on was the French 75. This is the hero piece for this project and it is what users interact with the most.
I also created the range finder, which is used to sight in the location of a target.
Research
A good amount of R&D was done for the making of this project. The first asepct I got to participate in was visiting Fort Lee (a private military weaponry collection) to take refrence images of an authentic French 75.
Next I had to opportunity to get photograph and 3D scan several historical pieces from a pivate collection belonging to Matt Switlik. These photos and scans were the main elements that helped me create my digital recreations of the historical pieces. I even got to fire the cannon myself!
