Inka ‘23: Cosmo Fabula - Into the Lit-verse

INKA, the most awaited literature festival of St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur, was organized by the Department of English on 19 November 2022. The theme for this year was ‘Cosmo Fabula - Into the Lit-verse’. This festival started with the celebration on Children’s Day at a Government Upper Primary School in Lalya ka Vaas. The inaugural ceremony on 19 November commenced with Rev Fr Dr Raymond Cherubin SJ, Vice Principal, St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur addressing the gathering and lighting the lamp. Thereafter, the students of the Department of English performed an idiosyncratic skit and a dance with live beatboxing which was followed by a formal vote of thanks delivered by Tanya Parwani, President, Enlightened Echelon.

 

To encapsulate INKA 22-23, six events were held, out of which two were held online. 'Ecriture Artistique’ - Painting Rendition, one of the two online events was canvassed with glorious artwork by the participants creatively. The other online event was 'Poetica Aestheticus', an Instagram reel competition where the winner was decided by the number of likes, views, expression, enunciation, voice modulation, and overall impact.

 

On 19 November 2022, two Author sessions were held, the first welcomed Ms. Ritiqa Pachauri, the founder of an editing and e-publishing house named - Writer’s Street. The other Author Session was graced by one of the most well-known figures in Indian contemporary literature, the recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award, Shashi Deshpande. She discussed her craft, characters, and the idea of freedom in the current literary context. The participants left the session enriched with intellectual ideas and a new zest for literature. 'Faire Theatrales’- the Declamation competition, the second event of the day was surreal and full of magnificent monologues. 'Coffee Table Talks’, organized in collaboration with Xavier’s Intellectual Forum, brought together a group of curious minds around a table discussing their favourite authors and genres. ‘Poiesis Incanto’ - the Poetry Slam was the central event of the whole festival. This year, the slam explored the topic ‘The Modern Era’. It saw a huge number of talented individuals perform their work and turned out to be a great success. Finally, the 'Ol’ Moon Ball' was the perfect conclusion to a day that will forever remain in countless memories. The celebration of literature came to an end with the closing ceremony where the winners of the various competitions were announced and their entries highlighted. The vote of thanks, delivered by Vasudha Sharma, President of the Literati Cell, concluded the festivities of INKA 22-23.
