The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) was launched in 2000, in the wake of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, with the aim to ensure that lessons learned from South Africa's transition from apartheid to democracy were taken into account as the nation moved forward. It continues to learn from the South African experience of transition and explores projects and partnerships that will deepen the efforts to build fair, inclusive, and democratic societies in this country, and on the rest of the continent.

The Institute is organised into a number of programmes, namely: Peacebuilding Interventions, Sustained Dialogues, Communication, Advocacy, and Strategy, and Research and Policy. You can find a description of each programme and more information on their work here.

The IJR has a variety of publications available, you can find them here.

The organisation takes on 5 paid interns per year, chosen through a rigorous selection process, as well as unpaid volunteers. You can find more information about these opportunities here.
