Brent Dorenkamp
Coach Dorenkamp has served as the Head Athletic Trainer at Wakefield High School for 22 years.
Under his guidance, Wakefield became the first high school in North Carolina to be inducted into the National Honor Society of Sports Medicine and is a multi-year recipient of the NATA Safe Sports School Award, highlighting the program’s commitment to excellence in athletic healthcare and safety.
Dorenkamp oversees all aspects of sports medicine services for Wakefield’s student-athletes, including injury prevention, evaluation, rehabilitation, and emergency preparedness. He also mentors a highly engaged group of Athletic Training Student Aides, who have built a strong tradition of service and leadership.
Dorenkamp remains dedicated to student development, clinical excellence, and fostering meaningful community impact.
Karl Hoelscher
Karl is a nationally certified and state licensed Athletic Trainer starting his 6th year as a professional and 2nd year with Wakefield High School. He is provided as a donation to Wakefield by EmergeOrtho to provide additional medical coverage. Karl is originally from Houston, Texas, he received his B.S. in Exercise Sports Science from Texas State University and his M.S. in Athletic Training from Texas A&M University. When Karl isn’t working he enjoys hiking, grilling, and playing with his 3 dogs.
Russ Williams
My name is Russ Williams and this is my 20th year teaching. While I have been working at WHS, I have coached both men's and women's wrestling as well as flag football. For the past 6 months I have been helping out sports medicine as a first responder for the school. When I am not at school, I love spending time with my lovely wife Kesia and our 2 cats.
Robyn Dembisky
My name is Robyn Dembisky, and I teach science at WHS. I previously served as the Athletic First Responder at North Davidson High School, working closely with the men’s soccer and football teams. At Wakefield, I’ve coached softball and volleyball, and now continue supporting student-athletes in an athletic care role. I hold a biology degree with concentrations in Pre-Med and Secondary Education, and I’m a certified Red Cross Instructor and former collegiate athlete. My passion lies in providing on-site injury care and fostering a culture of safety and wellness for all student-athletes.
