Threats Coral Reef

Coral reefs are extraordinary creatures. Coral reefs are some of the most diverse and valuable ecosystems on Earth. “Coral reefs support more species per unit area than any other marine environment, including about 4,000 species of fish, and 800 species of hard corals” (www.oceanservice.noaa.gov/). But tourism is resulting in habitat destruction, pollution, and more. This is terrible for the fish that need the coral reefs to protect themselves and to eat. Lots of fish would die, if our coral reefs die. Our ocean would be covered with trash and pollution. How would you feel if you couldn't eat salmon, shrimp, or lobster anymore? How would you feel if you couldn’t do your annual scuba diving trip to the coral reefs? Think about this next time you see pollution or bleached coral.
