Academy of Engineering Course Requirements

Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School is the only school in Wake County who offer courses using the nationally recognized Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Curriculum. Students focus on the process of defining and solving a problem by applying the Engineering Design Process.  The PLTW curriculum was designed to create an engaging, hands-on classroom environment and empower students to develop in-demand knowledge and skills they need to thrive.  

Academy Tracks

Academy of Engineering & IT offers two tracks:  Engineering & Information Technology.  Students are required to follow one of these tracks to complete the coursework required to graduate from the Academy of Engineering & IT.

ALL AOEI students are required to complete a 120-hour, for credit, internship prior to graduation to receive recognition and honors. 

Engineering Track

9th Grade Engineering Course: 

• PLTW Introduction to Engineering Design 

• World History Honors or AP World History
  
  

10th Grade Engineering Course: 

• PLTW Principles of Engineering 

• Civics Honors or AP U.S. Government
  
  

11th Grade Engineering Course: 

• PLTW Aerospace Engineering or PLTW Civil Engineering & Architecture Design

• American History Honors or AP U.S. History

12th Grade Engineering Course: 

• PLTW Engineering Capstone

• Economics and Personal Finance Honors

Information Technology (IT) Track

9th Grade IT Course: 

• Foundations of Computer Science 

• World History Honors or AP World History

10th Grade IT Course: 

• Python 1

• World History Honors or AP World History
