My journey in volunteering for this Non-profit organization as my "Civic Action" was truly enriching! On this page, I will walk you through the process I took to get it done:
As I stated in my introduction at first I honestly didn't know what to do. I didn't feel "drawn" to anything and couldn't find any opportunities, but after some searching around my third-period teacher presented me with the opportunity to come with her to volunteer with her for a Non-Profit organization at the PNC Arena. At first, I wasn't sure if I would be able to but I decided to take the opportunity because after she explained in detail what the money we would make would go towards, I finally felt drawn to something. After taking in this information I started researching the requirements and planning out when I would go and how I would get there. After researching I found out I had to be certified in PNC Arena "Food-handling" and "Customer Interaction". With the help of my teacher Ms. Smith, I was able to get certified in under a week. My research led me to also find out that the Non-profit organization I would be volunteering for had a goal of reaching $26,000 to go towards helping kids go to college for the next couple of months and to know I could help reach that goal really had me motivated. After discussing it with my mother we decided I would go throughout the next week which was the week of the 8th(Apr 8-12), with the help of my teacher I was also able to get transportation home. Some of the activities I did during these days included customer interaction, completing transactions, preparing drinks and food, etc. It was a nice time and was most definitely worth my while. And the best part was that I was able to make an impact on my community at the same time, raising money for others to go to college and have the same opportunity that others get. I also helped getting the company closer and closer to their goal leading to more good being done in my community. Did you know that 51% of kids drop out or don't go to college at all due to financial problems and lack of financial aid? Well, it's true and I see that as a problem because I believe in equal opportunity and this most definitely doesn't resemble that, which is why I believe even little things like this or community service can better the society we live in, even if it happens little by little.Â
