The Radiated Tortoise is an amazing species. They are found in southern Madagascar. The Radiated Tortoise is one of the most endangered species in the world! They can live up to 40-50 years! They can live this long because they have a protective shell. This shell helps protect them from predators.

“Radiated tortoises grow to a shell length of up to 16 inches (41 centimeters) and weighing up to 35 pounds (16 kilograms).” (National Zoo) That’s the weight of an average 4-5 year-old child! The Radiated Tortoise is a primarily herbivorous animal, “although the majority of its diet is comprised of plant matter. They are known to supplement their nutrition by eating a small animal every now and again.” (National Zoo)
