How Are They Threatened?

Environmental Dangers

The Galapagos is very threatened by worldwide environmental dangers. Such as climate change, deforestation, pollution, and the introduction of invasive species. Especially overfishing which is really threatening to the food chain and all animals are affected by this. According to discoveringgalapagos.org tourism in the Galapagos could be a good thing or a bad thing.

One good thing:

  • Tourists bring money to the Galapagos and it is a great way of helping the amazing islands. By using this money they can build sites that train/breed animals.

But a bad thing:

  • When people first started visiting these islands, is that more and more civilization has to be built. Such as hotels, and beach houses. This causes humans to use resources. And clearing up space that will be needed by animals. Leading to deforestation.

Many Galapagos Tortoise's species are now categorized as endangered or even critically endangered! Some breeding organization are having an amazing positive effect.
