Here are the 4 organic options I picked for brainstorming and create my project. I ended up going for the starfish because I think it represent my free spirit and resilience in life. I thought it would be really creative to add all those details in my starfish and make it look realistic.
For my starfish I decided to add texture by adding little balls of clay into the top layer, I was creating ball by ball which was very time consuming and sort of exhausting but in the end I thought it looked great but it wasn't really looking like a starfish.
For my final progress picture, I smoothed out the balls of clay on the top and decided to add texture by pocking holes instead which I thought it would look more realistic. In my opinion I think it looks better than when it had balls of clay all over and it might even look better and more realistic than before. I'm happy with the way my project is turning out so far.
Pros- The process of making this piece was interesting and i enjoyed playing with the clay while trying to figure out the way i wanted my piece to look like. I like the way it turned out in the end because i feel like the texture i added to it makes it look more realistic.
Cons- It was a very long process and you have to be careful with how much pressure you put into your piece so it doesn't smudge. I was complicated adding all the details and making it realistic. I think i could've made it look better.
These are the ideas I had for my soap carving, out of the 4 sketches I made, I didn't pick any of those since my soap stated getting shape as I was carving it.
For this side of the soap I decided to make it flower/nature themed and i added some rustic designs that look like leaves and branches.
For this side of the soap I decided to make a seal. For this i just carved an oval with the shape of a nose and I also added some whiskers and an eye.
As my final result, I think that the goal was reached, i am very happy with the way my soap carving came out and I love how both of the sides look next to eachother. The process was sort of hard since you had to be very careful on not craving too much soap so it wouldn't get ruined. I liked the process of creating this piece, I think it was very fun and interesting to make but one thing I didn't really like about this project was that the soap was sometimes kind of hard to manage and there was a lot of soap wasted while creating these. Overall this was a pretty amazing project and would most definetly do i again.
-For the sketch of our paper mache project we decided to make a big pancake with strawberries on top and a big drizzle of chocolate in the top pancake.
-For the materials we used cardboard, plastic bags, newspaper, and a mixture of flour, glue and water to cover the pancake and make its surface hard enough so we could put the other pancakes on top of it with it being stable and balanced.
In this picture, we had the strawberries covered with the newspaper and the mixture, we had done 6 layers of these. Afterwards we used house pain and tried to smooth things out so it could obtain more the sape of a pancake. We did around 5 layers on the strawberries until we made sure they were hard, so did the pancake as well.
In this picture we had already started painting, we mixed brown with yellow and white to get the tanned color of the pancake and we started painting the 3 strawberries bright red. We waited for it to dry to cover any missing sports and giving it another layer so the color would stand out more. At this point we started adding the chocolate drizzle on top but realized the pancake color wasn't dry enough so we had to stop.
The process of creating the pancakes was really fun, e and my friends all worked together to put this piece together, we all collaborated in painting, sketching and building the strawberries and the pancake. Something challenging i found about this project was waiting for the strawberries and the cake to dry up either from the glue mixture or the paint, since it needed several coats of everything, patience was very much needed in this project but overall it was fun working with other people and im satisfied with the piece we all created together. I think the color doesn't really look like a pancake, but we tried and did our bests and we all iike the way it turned out in the end. I think something i would've changed was the size of the pancakes, because it was too big so it took longer to dry up which required more time for it. I really liked this project and it was fun working on it.
In my own personal opinion, I think throwing was kind of hard, at first sealing the bottom was the easiest part, and the hardest part was getting the clay to stay in the middle of the wheel. It took a lot of attempts and was difficult to get right at first.
I think this project was pretty fun because the experience of controlling the wheel and the pedal. Having the control of he clay so you can make it the shape you want with the textures and every single detail is pretty complex but i managed to have patience throughout this whole process in which at the end worked out pretty well.
Something i thought was complicated was making the shape even in all sides while the wheel was spinning. It was complicated and it needed pressure and stability from your arms and fingers. Being stiff was key for this part and i think i did okay but with practice most definitely would've turned out better.
This project was pretty interesting because it took me a while, from the brainstorming part through the painting part and designing my christmas tree. I think this project was very fun because i really enjoyed watching the process of my peace coming together as well as the projects my classmates were making too. It was kind of hard thinking on the perfect image to create since there were too many ideas i could do and i thought since it was almost holiday season i decided to create a christmas tree. My favorite part about this project was tracing the image and glazing it. It was very fun working with all those different colors of glazes and i really like using different tools to give my piece some texture and visualization because i really enjoyed working with clay. I think the hardest part about making this project was creating the shape of the piece since it had to look like a tray with handles at the bottom. I'm really happy with the way my project turned out and i would most definitely do it again with a different design. I enjoyed working with this project a lot, its one of my favorites so far, I think it was very creative and unique.
I really liked doing this project because I thought it was very fun thinking on shapes and designs to add to my cup, as well as modifying the shape of my piece that in some way it will make it unique and different from the others. We had multiple options on different molds that we could use and i picked a bug one because i thought it was original and unique and didn't think many people would pick that one as well. Some of the things i thought were complicated was that sometimes my clay was getting a little dry so i had to keep spraying it with water. Another thing that i thought was hard was making space for the mold so it could put it in my piece. One of the things i really enjoyed about this project was glazing it, since there were so many colors to pick from and it was kind of hard deciding on one that i really wanted to do.
For this project we had to create a coil piece in which we made long strips of clay and we stack them together for it to increase its height and become taller while at the same time giving it a cup shape. This was pretty hard since its a very interesting technique and it is not the easiest thing ever. This project was very interesting and fun to make since i really had to learn how to put the specific pressure on each side of every coil to make it even and smoothing it out was a big challenge since i kept messing up a lot. I enjoyed creating this because it was a pretty long process since it took a while for m to smooth it out but also to pain it.
For this project i decided to make my cardboard piece about a planet, i wanted my project to be space themed so i added some starts and Saturn and Mrs Sudkamp let me use some lights to add, so i pocked holes all around and added the lights and painted it. In my opinion i think it looks pretty great but the stars are a bit big, It was a bit challenging cuttinf the cardboard, since i wasnt using the proper tools, it was a little difficult but then i used other tools and it became so much easier and faster. I really enjoyed painting this piece because i was just adding colors and glitter everywhere and i think that in the end it looks pretty good. If i could change something about my piece it would be changing the background color since i feel like the black color under the stars and the planet kind of makes it the galaxy look a bit lost. I think it would've looked great if it was more of like a white or even a grayish color. This project was very fun and i enjoyed making every single piece of this, from cutting the starts and the planet to painting it and adding lights. Im very satisfied with the way it turned out.
For this project we were told to create a pot and bring in organic stuff to put into a brown paper bag so that we could fire it. For this project i decided to bring hair, cat food, salt and tea bags. I really liked the way this project came out since i think it was a very creative way to add color into a piece. I enjoyed the process of creating this piece, i feel like it was very easy to make since all we really had to do was form a clay pot. I decided to add a tiny lid on mine so it would look like a mushroom. One thing that was very challenging for me was creating the shape of the lid, since i really didn't know how to make it at first and I was scared that it wouldn't fit properly after i had made it. I think the final result turned out pretty good. This was a very fun project and getting feedback from my peers really helped me motivate me by keep on working on this. I would most certainly do it again but I think that in the future I might change the shape and do something else, like a different design. In the future I would've liked to add a butterfly or something that represents an animal because I think it would look really good that way.
