As an artist, i have seen many improvements in my techniques and this class has helped me so much with my creativity. I feel I can draw better and do many other stuff better than I did before and every single assignment from this class has helped in certain way to make me better as an artist, plus many of this assignments were really fun to make. I'm so proud of every single artwork i created this semester because it reflects how i am in the inside and i really put a lot of effort on them which in my opinion they look really good but even though i put a lot of effort i still need to practice more so i can improve more and my art pieces look even better. I learned a lot of new stuff and worked with materials i have never worked with before which was a whole new experience and i really liked it. I think this portfolio i have been creating ever since the beginning of this semester shows accurately my improvements and development in the class, because i have seen pieces i created many years ago and the ones i created this semester and the difference is very big and i think i improved a lot.
In this drawing we had to do a cityscape in 2 point perspective, i really didn't like my work and i think now i can do so much better than that. The lines weren't straight enough and i didn't add enough details. In my opinion this looks very simple and needs more shadows and highlights. I used a normal pencil as the material and i didn't use different shades or tones. This piece is really plain and it shows how i didnt put effort on this. In my opinion if i do this assignment again now i feel like i can do it so much better by adding way more details and make the lines more straight so it covers more with the requirements. I feel that if have added more tones this would have looked more realistic, and making the buildings different sizes and shapes could have made it looks better. Next time i know how to do this better.
In this piece we had to do a portrait of someone we know so i picked my friend. I used pencil as the material and for this one specific i used different tones and i blended in a lot. I think it looks pretty good but it is not perfect but at least is way better than the beginning one. This piece took approximately a week to make and i could add more details like the curly hair or the shadows of the dress. I still need improvement but so far i have been doing pretty good and i see the changes. I like the shape of the nose and the eyebrows because it looks really similar to the reference picture. I also like the way the short curly hair looks. I tried to do it as realistic as i could by adding many details and i think that made it look pretty good and with more practice i think i can make this even better one day.
2. How do you define success as an artist? -In my opinion i am a strong believer that think that the success in an artist depends on how their art works inspire people and finding the deeper meaning of it. Thinking more deeply into the artwork can lead to more creativity and could answer many questions you could have about it. Many artworks could be either showing happiness, mystery, fear, excitement. It all depends on how the public find the deeply meaning and when they find it they are going to admire more that piece or art. I doesn't matter how simple or complicated it is, you could always stare at the piece and look at the details so you can figure out what was the purpose of it and what is the artist transmitting to the public through that piece and why did they created it. By just looking at it you can figure out so much and at the end when you find its purpose it will open your eyes through a new world and all of it will be worth it.
What are some of the most significant things you've learned through artmaking? -I have learned so many things through artmaking and some of them are really essential and very much needed just like patience. With patience i realized that you are more careful and feel comfortable and at the end you will like the results even better than just doing it stressed and anxious to finish it. You can really tell the difference between an art work and the artist took its time to make something that an artist drew with shortage of time. Another thing that is very important is creativity. With creativity you open your mind to more ideas which by that you have many options and thought on what you want to do for your art piece like the materials you want to use or the techniques you want to use, etc.
What do you find most rewarding about being an artist? -The most rewarding about being an artist is when you finish your art piece and you look at it and you feel so proud and feel that everything you did and every single piece of effort you put on it was all worth it. I love the feeling when you want to give up but you don't because you want to see the final result and you put all your effort and a lot of patience and at the end your work looks amazing you want to show it to everyone. Also i think it feels really really nice when the public see your artwork and they just tell you how good you did it and how perfect it is. Then they ask for the purpose of it and you tell them all the ideas you had and the stuff that inspired you to make it.
The watercolor landscape was my least liked project because i feel like i was in a rush and had only a little time to finish this, so i had to hurry a little. I feel like i couldve added better convination of colors and i could have used better techniques for this and just let it dry and continue late so that the paint wouldn't have mixed all together. That could have made this piece look better and i feel the color choice isn't the best because orange doesn't really go with blue and the green for the hills is too dark. I feel that by adding darker tones of green in the hills it could have added more depth to it which maybe it could look more realistic. Also the sun is too small and the sky hides it while the sun should be the main focus of this painting.
The ceramic pot was my most successful project because it was my first time doing pottery and I really liked it, i took my time adding the details of the trees around the cup. I put the pressure needed and did the details i had to do and im really happy with the ending result. Many people told me this project looked really good. The cap has little leaves on the top and this ceramic pot was themed on october, around fall/autumn. I picked this season because in my opinions the trees looks the best and one of the options was to do it based on nature so it was easier for me to pick fall.
