Digital Art stuff
Some of the same art style and form was the scales and the background, and the nightwing dragon. The differences of the art and form was the drawing of the nightwing dragon called darkstalker, and the blue blood.
The hardest part of it was drawing out darkstalker, because I'm not good with a mouse, I’m only good with my finger. The background was easy for me to do, because of the shades of reds. It goes from a dark red to a light cherry(?) red. This was really fun to do, I love drawing dragons and i’ll keep drawing them and other stuff.
Book cover by Joy Ang and book series by: Tui T. Sutherland. I believe it was made of digital art and printed out to make the book cover. It was originally published on June 28, 2016 around the wings of fire second arc. It’s horizontal for the book cover. Well it has darkstalker on the front cover and the book has three povs, Fathom the seawing, Clearsight the nightwing and darkstalker the nightwing. 512 x 265 in size. I see a nightwing dragonet, that being darkstalker, and a red cloudy background. Objects are the red clouds in the background. It’s probably a cloudy red night with the three moons being blood red, making the background red in color. The colors are mostly dark colors with blacks, greys, dark reds. There are a lot of curvy lines in this cover, It looks like a more realistic drawing. Organic shapes and geometric shapes are in place and in the background there's fuzzy organic shapes. The texture for the background is fuzzy, for darkstalker he has smooth and shiny scales. For the patterns, in the background, there are rows of clouds dark to dull-ish red. The space feels crowded. For the book cover, there is text but for this there's no text. In the background light is being used.
Analysis
The focal point of this is darkstalker the nightwing. I think the background stands out more. Darkstalker stands out the most because he has blacks, greys. The darkstalker is getting emphasized more due to him standing out more. I think the background makes it more interesting, because it pops out more than darkstalker. For the background bush, it's the same but for darkstalker it has different lines, and smoother lines. Darkstalker stands out more due to him having smoother lines, different types of scales. I think it is more realistic to darkstalker having a 3D look. The digital drawing is asymmetrical due to darkstalker having his wings more to the left and his burst shot being on the right side of the digital drawing. It looks balanced on the digital drawing, the body is coming from the left side of the page, so darkstalker is more on the left side. Darkstalker is smaller on the page and the clouds look slightly bigger to fit the page. It feels like it's moving due to the clouds in the background of the book cover, I think there's rhythm to the cloud in the background. The lines lead me around the page of the book cover.
Interpretation
The drawing means fate is clouded. This book took place 2,000 years ago. The artist is trying to tell me that the book is about mystery, backstabbing, and saving the world. Creepiness, that's what I felt when Joy Ang made this. The content is about three dragontes, Darkstalker the Nightwing-icewing hybrid, Clearsight the nightwing, and fathom the seawing, about their lives like fathom going through stuff in the seawing kingdom. The theme is about learning who to trust, and who to be careful around. The artwork is about clouded secrets and mystery. Well, the clouds in the background could mean, there's a lot of secrets and murder in the book, and darkstalker turing evil with his animus magic.
-Metaphor for this drawing/book cover is when you, as a person, lose control.
-It make me feel sad, due to Tui the book arthur having darkstalker base on her ex-boyfriend
-I wonder what could Joy ang change in the book cover.
-I’ve wondered about how the humans survive the dragon world after the scorching.
Research:
Well Tui T. the book author said that darkstalker was based off of her ex-boyfriend(and I think he was toxic, but i don’t know.). I think the art cover for the book is a movement for dragon lovers like me to love. The artwork tells the story of the book slightly. The main idea was to tell a mystery dragonet with powers that can do great things but comes with a bad price to pay. Well Tui. The book author had a toxic ex-boyfriend and she based darkstalker on her ex. I think the book author bases the dragons on dragons from the past. Tui was born in New Zealand, and she moved to different places and I think that got an idea out of Tui.
Evaluation
I like the artwork, It took a lot of time and the right dragon body type for darkstalker. The Darkstalker stands out to me due to him being one of the main povs. The background could be worked on. I would make a different background with some of the characters from the book to appear in the background.
-The book maker did have a bad ex-boyfriend, Tui. T based Darkstalker on him.
-I think, it’s design is good, the background is simple, but darkstalker probably took longer to draw out.
-It kinda does because the red background with the clouds probably tells the reader or observer that the book is about mystery, backstabbing. I don’t think there was ritually motivated for the drawing. The book cover doesn’t encourage others to act better in society.
-Not really due to not having much background and only having a nightwing dragon.
-I think so, because the background and darkstalker is giving some creepiness and mystery feelings.
-The drawing is not unconventional because its not made of stuff like beads or pipe cleaners.
A gif of about me
I was doing just a simple gif, not too big, or too small. I learned a lot of things in the past 2 week-ish, I learned how to animate stuff like books and a plushie of mine. I kinda know how to animate drawings but I can animate items better. I learned how to tween, flip stuff upside down etc. I had fun with this, stressful but fun. The steps took a lot of patience, a lot of focus, and filling out my work blog. This was fun, I hope we can do an animation with drawings sometime soon.
I love pokemon. That plushie was one of my favorites and one of many that I have at my house. Reading is my favorite thing to do during school hours, rocks and minerals are super cool to me. Wings of fire is my life. It's a good book series, with book 15 coming out soon for the third arc of the series. I am a book lover and a Pokemon fan ever senece Pokemon X and Y. I don’t think I added metaphors.
I learned that a lot of stuff takes a long time to do, and that’s ok. Time management is key. I teach myself to animate something. I never dreamed of animating something, I know that takes a long time if you teach yourself and learn from someone else as well. I did learn during this project, having fun, animation is something else, I’ll tell you that. I learned how to animate, use photoshop more.
I really like birds! Birds are really cool, they are really creative and smart. I think the toucan reflects some of my personality traits. Birds are super cute and friendly, when around other birds or humans.
I found a photo of a toucan, “I’m like. Hey, I can draw a toucan. Toucans are cool to draw!” So I drew a toucan for my logo. I traced over the printed toucan on tan paper and on some white paper, and I did one of the toucan’s on one of the papers. I would recolor the toucans body and the log that it’s standing on. The beak was my most successful part of the logo I had on this project. I've never done a logo before.
The message of my infographic is to tell people about the LGBT community and some of its history and some facts. The main color, which is black means the community has been in some bad phases, the white part is when they have some good phrases. The green bits are just some life of the community and nature of them.
I think I did a decent job at creating unity and emphasis, I just went with a simple way, going with black, white and some green in the mix.
I did my infographic on canva. I did my words first then the graphs on my infographic. I had fun with this.
The data visualization, were inrpastion actually! I have a time line and two pie charts on my infographic. The data visualization came from two wikipedia and the history channel's website.
The top graph did have more words, but I couldn't get the one with the more words. So more context, That graph is from 2020, and shows three gen Gen Z, Gen X and millials.
3D molding
3D modeling is where you can make something kinda like into real life. It’s basically using coordinate-based, representative of real life or kinda not. It can be used on computers, phones and paper, but mainly on computers. There's a lot of processing like Polygonal modeling or Digital sculpting.
Careers like art can use 3D modeling as something to make a weapon or a character. Tv makers can use 3D art for shows. I know some shows that do 3D art, Some cartoon shows have some 3D art in it like Invader Zim or Jimmy Neutron. Game makers use this 3D modeling for character reference sheets or can be used as weapons.
Examples for my 3D stuff:
My goal was to get the basics of 3D model making. My choice of subject matter was a red panda, or well try at least. I had fun and it was stressful.
Where do I start? I had to start with a sphere, and had to make the muzzle of the red panda. I added eyes but you can barely see them. I put paint on the eyes and eyebrows. I made the neck and the ears. The ears I had to do spearly on a new sphere, both done at different times of the week.
My challenge was the head. I can’t draw a red panda head, and it was harder on SculptGL. The most successful part was the ears, I had never done 3D modeling before until a week ago. I had fun with the ears, the ears where the easy bit of the 3D modeling.
My goal was to at least to get something moving done. I was going to do more, but I had trouble with the audio part of it. I liked animation, but it drains you within 5 minutes.
What is the mood of this animation? Sadness. Because it sounds sad at the beginning and kinda gets louder.
The shapes show the sad flash back to the world ending. The circle is the sun and it spikes out, making it disappear and leaving these two shapes in the dark. The white is snow on hills and its barren on top. The sky is dark blue, meaning the sun died moments ago. The shapes are humans
I didn’t really get much done, which Is bad for my grade but good for learning. What do I think is really successful? The ball/sun falling down and exploding into pieces. What can I do to improve upon if I had more time. Probably add more stuff and flashes backs to it.
I proposed a youtuber intro type thing for this project. I ended up accomplishing a basic crappy moving mouth with words coming out of her mouth and this is the final work for the project. I had to change my character Three times. One being a Flannel Moth, One being an Icewing, and then the mudwing. It was not fun at all, I lost half of my drawing on the icewing, and I was left with the sketch and the line art was gone, into the void. I made the Mudwing that was fun, to draw, I had a plan to animate her tail to make the words appear but I went with a mouth letting words out.
I learned that animation is hard, even for a beginner like me. I learned how to move and learn to do effects like making stuff disappear. I was like “How do I that?” searching it on youtube.
My strength was drawing the dragon in Photoshop and animating her mouth. My weakness of mine was to time the stuff perfectly. I cant time anything perfectly, and I have a hard time. I think the animation of the words was successful, in my opinion. I think I could improve on the animation of the mouth, It looks so bad. The timing on After Effects was bad, It was so hard to learn to do it in the app.
I proposed a lineless art animation at the beginning of the week. I accomplished a wip, of only three frames. I made changes to my plane because I took too much time on my refs for the characters and not the animation.
I learned how to make a small fight scene. I layed out a guide to follow with and used the line brush.
My strength was dragon dragons! My weakness was animating the dragons. I think the dragons were successful. I could improve on the animations and dragons. How to draw a dragon from the top of the screen.
