Our Peer Counselors are expected to respect and maintain the confidentiality of the students they support. However, because Peer Counselors are students and not licensed professionals, we follow a “Duty to Inform” guideline. This guideline helps Peer Counselors recognize when a concern is beyond their level of training and requires adult support.
In these situations, information is shared only with school counselors who are part of our established confidentiality circle, ensuring student safety while maintaining privacy whenever possible.
We will need to inform an adult if...
As a leader on campus, our peer Counselors are held to a higher standard of rules and accountability
Maintaining the confidentiality of those that we work with as a Peer Counselors
Providing information to the Peer Counseling mentor when issues raised by a student require the intervention of an adult
Being an encouraging and supportive presence on campus
Demonstrating respect and positive attitudes to staff members and fellow students
Abiding by and supporting all school rules, even if you do not agree with them
Promoting and advocating positive school spirit and decorum while on campus
Avoiding gossip and mean-spiritedness, and calling it out when it occurs
Maintaining good behavior and consistent attendance in all classes
