Peer Counselors are students who genuinely care about others and want to make a positive impact on campus. They are people their peers can trust—students who listen without judgment, respect confidentiality, and show up when others need support.
Peer Counselors are comfortable talking with students they may not already know and are willing to be seen as positive, responsible leaders at Monte Vista High School. They work with a variety of students and groups across campus to help promote mental health, connection, and community.
You don’t need to have everything figured out or be “perfect” to be a Peer Counselor. If you’re someone who likes helping others and wants to build real-life skills that matter, this program might be for you.
Peer Counselors tend to be students who are:
Empathetic, kind, and a good listener
Trustworthy and able to keep conversations confidential
Responsible and reliable
Open-minded and nonjudgmental
Comfortable starting conversations with new people
Willing to step up as a positive role model on campus
Interested in supporting student well-being and mental health
Peer Counseling is a great fit for students curious about careers in psychology, mental health, education, healthcare, social work, law, business, communication, advocacy, or leadership—but it’s also incredibly valuable for anyone who wants to grow in confidence, compassion, and communication skills that last a lifetime.
