For this assignment, I made a cylindrical pot using the coil technique. The prompt was to create a coil pot and then carve the sides, which I altered slightly by making constellations instead of a carved design.

I first cut out a base, then rolled out coils by hand and later using the extruder. These I layered on top of the base to create circles that would build up height for my pot. After letting it dry until it was leather hard, I took various sizes of drill-bit tools to poke holes in the sides of the pot. My goal for this pot was to put a candle in the middle, having the light shine through the holes in imitation of stars. I had researched real constellations beforehand, and includes ones like Pegasus, Orion, and Cassiopeia.

I wish I had more time to carve the pot itself, I think it would have been very cool to try to carve the shapes over the constellations, so the light would shine through the actual stars but the surface would show the animals or mythical beings through carved drawings.
