I encourage caregivers to stay updated on what we learn in our counseling lessons. Follow up discussions at home can help reinforce important concepts. These discussions can also help generate meaningful conversation at home regarding emotional regualtion, friendship, study skills- even future career possibilities!
LEARNING INTENTIONS:
I’m learning how the school counselor can help keep me safe, be a great learner, and take care of my feelings.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
I can identify who my school counselor is and how they can help me.
OVERVIEW:
In our first counselor lesson, we learned about the role of school counselor and the specific ways a counselor supports a school community. We explored how to request a counselor meeting, took a tour of Mrs. Click's office, and learned about counselor confidentiality. Students understand that the school counselor will keep information private unless it involves student harm or safety. We reviewed how school counselors directly support students by teaching in the classroom, working in a small group, and/or meeting one-on-one. When students understand the role of the school counselor, it optimizes safety and wellbeing!
LEARNING INTENTIONS:
I’m learning school success tools.
I'm learning about being a life-long learner.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
I can have a positive attitude toward learning.
OVERVIEW:
The beginning of the school year is a perfect time to develop a positive attitude towards learning. In our lesson, we learned:
Our brains don't grow when we only do easy things
Mistakes are part of learning
Finding our mistakes, figuring out why we made them, and then fixing them is when our brain grows the most
When something takes more time, that can be a good thing (it means our brain is growing!)
Challenging tasks can also be the most fun tasks
