Capstone Step 2

Evidence of Work

With our market research complete in Step 1, our Design Step 2 was focused on fleshing out the different variations of our product itself. This involved segmenting out the different functions and coming up with multiple design options for each section. For example, we broke up our prosthetic arm into 4 parts, the socket, the wrist, the fingers, and the material. We researched and chose a couple of the best design options for each, with each design being significantly different than the other so we can test their viability.

After doing this research and choosing options for each function, the next step was to come up with a couple variations of a finished product by putting the functions into different combinations. We then drew out detailed sketches of these finished combinations to model how they might appear. By doing this we were able to weigh the pros and cons of each design and get a head start in choosing our final product design.

Reflection

During this portion of the capstone project, something that our team did a great job with was creativity and critical thinking. Both of these skills were needed in great amounts to come up with so many alternative designs for our project. Creativity was needed to come up with fresh new designs other team members hadn't already come up with while critical thinking was utilized to figure out which ideas were actually plausible based on skill, money, and function.

Something I think we can always work on improving is our collaboration. Group projects are a constant push and pull between group members so we are always working to improve our relationships with each other and distribute the work.
