The goal for Design Step 2 was to generate alternative concepts and produce technical drawings of our ideas. The main components we had to create were a classification scheme, a decomposition flow chart, and 3 concepts of functions from the classification scheme. The overall theme of this design step was to break down our product and further our brainstorming to solidify our idea.
identifies the functions and main concepts our product is made of. by combining concepts from each function different versions of the product are produced, allowing for further brainstorming and eventually creating our ideal combination of concepts.
different components of brace, broken down into parts, location on brace in relation to the arm, and materials
Concept 1 = button + full sleeve Velcro + 2 mini rollers + 3 different speeds
Concept 2 = switch + velcro strips + three mini rollers + 1 constant speed
Concept 3 = button + velcro strips + pulley system + 1 constant speed
After many design sketches and blueprint ideas, this is our updated final blueprint. We have zoom ins of the mini arduino and the mini breadboard of how we are going to wire the motors. We also have a zoom in of the motor with the rotating massage balls attached with our latest 3D print model.
A classification scheme is the product of arranging things into groups. It is a way of grouping and organizing data so that it can be compared with other data. We made a classification scheme of all of our ideas for our arm brace to help us come up with a final design.
A functional decomposition flow chart is the diagrammatic representation of a particular concept with its sub-parts. We created a flow chart of all the parts and their connections for our arm brace
Use of computer-based software to aid in design processes. CAD software is frequently used by different types of engineers and designers to create two-dimensional drawings or three-dimensional models. We used CAD, like Onshape and Fusion Autodesk, to practice our 3D modeling and make our sketches come to life.
Throughout Step 2 of working on the capstone project, my team and I worked efficiently and effectively to manage our work and get assignments done.
Although there were only a few goals in this design step, there was lots of assigned work to help us reach those goals. As a team, we collaborated well and communicated effectively. The work for each assignment was distributed evenly and we communicated what work was going to be done each day by each person. We also communicated when a group mate was struggling with their part, and talked through the different issues we were having.
One thing we could have improved on was our conscientious learning. Because our collaboration and communication were so productive, our team ended up finishing our assignments before the Step 2 time period was over. Instead of charging onward with our work, we dwindled with our remaining time in class. In the next design step, we want to spend our free time prototyping more so we can improve our prototype.
