Description:
Our groups were asked to create a band from 4 crafted instruments, using pipes, wood, and strings to create an instrument that could play 8 notes. We needed to make a wind, chime, and string instrument. Over the course of the project, we made blueprints, found materials, built the instrument, and tuned them to sound nice. It was a good project.
My Instrument:
For my instrument, I made a simple string instrument, with one string. The string is looped through one end of the board, and is wrapped around a dowel on the other side, to be used to tune. The string goes over a small angled block of wood, for the bridge, and also goes over a large black hollow pipe, to echo the sound and give it more vibration. To change the note, you can use your fingers to shorten the string, and pluck the side closest to the black pipe. The string is currently tuned to D4, meaning the frequency is 293.66 Hz. The string thickness is about 2 mm.
Reflection:
I think we did well collaborating with each other, helping when we needed it. We each contributed our own part, and I think we worked well together. I think we needed to work a bit more on creativity, as our instruments were pretty basic. I thought it was a fun project.
