Alternative Energy Vehicle

Our task

For this project we were tasked with creating a car that was able to move to and stop at 5 meters, while carrying two penny rolls as passengers. We were also tasked with making an energy efficient car with alternative energy ( no chemical, gas, or nuclear ).

About our car

Our car was created with plywood, RC wheels, wooden axles and a rat trap. The car was powered by the energy from the rat trap as it snapped. Our group thought it would be cool and unique if we created our car based on F1 racing cars. So we tried to make our car go fast and stay stable, in which we succeeded .

The content

- Gravitational Potential Energy: Energy an object possesses because of its position in a gravitational field. The formula for this is PEg=mgh

-Spring potential energy: A form of stored energy that elastic objects can hold. The formula for this is PEspring= 1/2kx^2

- Kinetic Energy: A form of energy possessed by an object due to its motion. The Formula for this is KE= 1/2mv^2

- Total Energy: The sum of kinetic and gravitational potential energy, and this total energy is conserved in orbital motion.

- Thermal Energy: Energy to heat transferred. The formula to solve this is TE= Total E- PE -KE

- Velocity: Rate of distance covered in a direction (how fast). The formula for this is the change in Distance over change of time

-Distance: Space between two points. To get this the formula is d=1/2 at^2

-Rotational inertia: A property of any object which can be rotated. It is a value which tells us how difficult it is to change the rotational velocity of the object around a given rotational axis.

Reflection

For this project 2 things I think I did well on was collaboration, and work ethic, I also thought me and my group were very good at problem solving, because at one point our car broke but we just worked through it and everything turned out great. Two things I think I could improve on for the next project is either leadership, because I kind of just followed what my group was doing, but I contributed a lot, and a little bit of self management because I feel like I was a little bit off task at some parts of the project.
