Intro

For the fourth lab in our STEM Biology class, we studied about homeostasis and how our bodies maintain it. To start this project we were assigned the task of creating a lab that would test our specific subject, blood pressure, and how it can be used to provide homeostasis. Once we finished designing and the testing this lab, we collected our data, made a poster on google slides, and a lab report.

We decided to study how blood pressure is changed through talking and yelling and how the body responds to maintain homeostasis. To test this, our group tested each participants base line BP, talking BP, and yelling BP. After recording this data we then created a poster and a lab report. From our graphs and data we can tell that with the inclination if the intensity of the volume, the blood pressure of the person increases proportionally. The body increases its blood pressure because the muscles are being used at a higher intensity so they require more blood to accommodate.

Homeostasis Project

Biology Concepts

Homeostasis-

Homeostasis is the state of steady internal physical and chemical conditions maintained by living systems

Signal-

A message sent from one organism to another, or from one place in an organism to another place (one way).

Receptor-

A sensory Organ

Stimulus-

An action that evokes a response

Effector-

An organ that acts in response to a stimulus

Response-

A caused action of the effector

Feedback Loop-

A feedback loop is a biological occurrence wherein the output of a system amplifies the system (positive feedback) or inhibits the system (negative feedback)

Reflection

During this homeostasis lab our group could have improved on two negatives. The first one was how our group did not have much cultural competence throughout this lab. This lab didn't really require the groups to use cultural competence so our group should work together to make sure we incorporate it in our next project. The other pit of our time working on the lab was that our group could have collaborated better together. Although we got the lab finished on time, not everyone put in as much effort as the rest of the group to make sure the project was done well. If everyone contributed equally to the project then our group could have finished with time to spare.

Our group, however having a few things to work on, worked very well together. First of all, our group communicated very well. Everyone expressed their thoughts and ideas well on how to better our project. Second of all, our group worked very well as conscientious learners. As a group we set goals and managed our time to make sure that we finished both the lab report and the poster on time. In total our group worked well together through our communication and conscientious learning skills.
