Our task was to create a car that rolled as close to 5m as possible, transport 2 rolls of pennies, and not ran by battery or any chemical energy
Our car was made of cardboard, CDs, hot glue, wooden dowels, plastic toy car wheels, rubber band, and a nail. The car was powered by elastic.
We started making these with not a sign of what were were going to do. We had to make a few different bases and started with a four wheel vehicle. Some people wanted a three wheeled car but 4 wheels worked a lot better. We were thinking about making it with solar panels at first but making it with rubber bands was more reliable.
We had to test our prototype many many times to find the right amount of times we have to wind it up. It always went at different numbers of winds but we were able to find a persistent number of times to wind it up which was about 3. Our passengers/pennies were held in a little department where the back axle is.
We used CDs as our wheels which doesn't have any friction as they are smooth. We attached the CDs to axels, they're placed in a hole through the cardboard which doesn't have friction either where we made the holes well enough. Our car is good and works well, it consistently goes around 5 meters which is exactly the goal.
Reflection
This wasnt my best project and I could have contributed a lot more. My group helped me understand everything I needed to know and made sure we were always on task doing what we need to do. Some things I learned is that helping my group will defienetly make more of an impact not just on the group but on me and for my collaboration grade as well. I should help with more ideas and talk about what needs to be done more.
I think I have this same thing for every project which is a sign I need to actually start listening to it and setting goals for myself. It will make a bigger impact on the group and help me start improving on my contribution and leadership skills. This project was fun to be in and my group and I got along pretty well
