Our Capstone Design Project's second phase was mostly concerned with coming up with and evaluating substitute concepts for our design. We created functional decomposition reports, classification systems, concept sketches for alternative designs, and alternative concepts. I've posted the work that my group completed for this stage of the capstone project below.
Prototype: A first, typical, or early model of something, often a machine, from which later forms are developed or duplicated.
Biodiversity: The variety of life on the planet or in a certain area or ecosystem.
3D printer: a machine that creates a physical thing from a three-dimensional digital model by putting down numerous thin layers of material in succession. We utilized a 3D printer to create our funnel.
Survey: A broad overview, study, or description of someone or something. We canvassed other students to find out what they wanted to see on our device. We intend to conduct more polls and collect data from a larger range of people.
Mentor: An experienced and trustworthy advisor who has expertized in a specific field of study.
Demand: An insistent and peremptory request expressed as if it were proper. We have created and will continue to update our list of requests and wishes.
Wish: Feel or express a strong desire or hope for something difficult to obtain.
Functionality: Ability to effectively serve a function; practicality.
TPU Filament: Thermoplastic Polyurethane that have enhance stretch and bend qualities
Sensors: A device which detects or measures a physical property and records, indicates, or otherwise responds to it.
For my group and me, the Capstone Design Step 2 went ok. Although it required some effort, we eventually managed to link the options together once we generated fresh concepts. We were stronger in two areas: creativity and critical thinking. By assisting one another in creating potential sketches and learning how to operate the 3D printer and model, we showed excellent critical thinking. Additionally, we showed innovation by combining multiple parts from our sketch designs and creating innovative uses for our TPU filament and sensor locations to create new shoe product features.
Two area that we could've done better on were Communication and Collaboration. We need to drastically improve on Collaboration on our project because we always slack off during class periods and procrastinate on our assignments. We have good ideas when working together and its efficient but we lack staying on task. We also need to improve on Communication throughout the group because we tend to do our own individual work but not as a team like we should. We need to focus on gathering up our thoughts and talk plans out on what we want to accomplish by the end of each class period. We want to focus on more brainstorming together and overall, I'm interested on how this project will unfold in the future and I'm excited to see everything come together.
