Life in Lithuania and Latvia

Photograph of Sheyna in Lithuania

Sheyna was born in Kaunas, Lithuania but then moved to Latvia after meeting her soon-to-be husband, Iosel. Sheyna went through the Holocaust when she was a just little girl in Lithuania. Her family was separated by the Nazis. Her mother and little sister were sent to a concentration camp where they perished. Sheyna was at a labor camp where she worked in the farm fields. Her father was at a different concentration camp where he worked as a shoe repairman for the Nazis. Sheyna and her father survived but didn’t know about each other’s whereabouts after being liberated.

Eventually, Sheyna and her father reunited back in their hometown of Kaunas. My great-grandfather eventually remarried and started a new family. He had another daughter with his new wife. Sheyna lived with them. Sheyna and Iosel had two sons, Mark and Garri while living in Latvia.
