Settling in the us
Once Leslie Poisson landed in the US and attained a visa, she initially lived in Weston. Her mother had begun working nearby, but did not make enough money to support both Leslie and herself, while also saving money to get the rest of her children to Boston from Haiti. As a result, Leslie lived with incredibly generous members of the Weston community who were willing to open their doors to Leslie. It was around this time when Leslie's mother, Marianne, gave birth to Christopher.
Homes Growing Up
The baer family
The Baer family was home for Leslie for just her first year. They provided Leslie with the basic needs of a home, and also taught her basic English and other customs to culturally catch her up to speed.
The Silverman family was home for Leslie her entire high school career. Leslie grew incredibly close with the daughter of the house, Sarah. They are still in contact and friends to this day. Here, she was able to learn more about American culture and customs, and further assimilate herself into American culture.Â

American Culture Shocks
Food was MUCH different
"Many places like restaurants prioritized speed and convenience over quality. There was almost nothing like that back in Haiti"
The times of day to which people did certain activities
"In Haiti, you were expected to be home by 4pm to wash up, and help prepare supper. You weren't out and about after dark without a good reason."
Technology was considerably more advanced in the US
