Haiti is no stranger to turmoil and unrest. In fact, turmoil and unrest was how Haiti gained their independence from France. In the mid-1900s, Haiti was amidst civil unrest, which saw a coup against its president François Duvalier in the early 1960s. As a result, Marianne Poisson decided Haiti was no longer safe for her daughter, Leslie.

Leslie Poisson has become a loving sister, aunt, and unbelievable artist in the steps of her father. Her life story and journey to America is one of strength, adaptability, and perseverance. She remains closely connected with family and friends, as well as independent and self-fulfilling.
