RELATIONSHIP WITH Grandma

Esther was nervous about going to work for an upper class white family in the suburbs of New York. Scarsdale was very hoity-toity, which didn't bode well with the fact that she hadn't heard the greatest things about Americans. Those she had talked to had told her that they were cold and unaccepting. With tears forming in her eyes and emotions flooding over her, Esther urges me that this was not the case with my grandparents. It's beautiful to see how much appreciation she has for my grandma and my late grandfather, whom she's known for more than 40 years of her life.

"I ARRIVED ON FEBRUARY 5TH, I MET TOBY ON FEBRUARY 10TH, AND I'VE BEEN WITH HER EVER SINCE"

It was at this point, when she met my grandparents, that Fulvia decided to change her name. Needing a name that was easier to pronounce than the one she was given at birth, she went with "Esther". I've known her as Esther my whole life, and until this interview took place, I had no idea she ever went by anything else. As she takes a moment to gather her thoughts, my mom talks about how she tells all of her friends about my grandma's relationship with Esther, and how heartwarming the Baron family finds it. My mom tells Esther how incredibly important she is not only to my grandmother, but her children and her grandchildren like myself. Ever since my grandfather passed away, I've noticed how important it is for my grandmother to have such a close friend like Esther, and it makes me very happy to see them together.

"I REMEMBER THE CHILDREN BEING BORN, WATCHING THEM GROW UP, CHANGING THEIR DIAPERS, SEEING THEIR WEDDING DRESSES"
