Esther had a beautiful life in Panama. She reminisces about her childhood, spending time with her cousins. They would go down to the river everyday, having to cross a cemetery if they wanted to get there. It scared them. They decided, for reasons that are unclear to her now, that they wouldn't cross the cemetery after 4:00 in the afternoon. It's the little anecdotes like going to the river that Esther enjoys sharing with me.

She had a relatively common family; she lived with her mother, her father, and one brother. Her father died when she was a young girl, but her mother remained a very present figure in her life. She wouldn't get to see her brother much in her adult life. He moved to Venezuela, where he established his own life, his own career, and his own family. She later revealed that her brother passed away a couple years ago. She had children at 19 with her former husband. They have since gotten divorced, but her children and her grandchildren remain an integral part of her life.
