Additional Experiences

Deepa has now lived in the United States for almost as long as her time in India. She is now married and has eight year old twins who attend Broadmeadow Elementary School here in Needham, MA. She works at United Health, and loves to paint.

"I was quick to understand that we all value the same things"

Deepa's Takeaways

One of the reasons that Deepa was excited to do this interview was because she was happy to see a young girl get to take classes like GBP that give a well rounded education, and give opportunities to young girls. She said "I’m glad that young women today are told they can conquer the world and make it a better place (I tell my daughter that). My message to the younger generation is to never give up and be yourself". After coming to the US, Deepa discovered her love for art, something that she did not get the opportunity to do in India, and has painted many, including the ones displayed on the right.

"I’ve learned to appreciate what I have and I advise my kids to do the same. They have no idea what it means to be deprived of an opportunity due to one’s gender or lack of resources"
