Hi, here are the things I've done for my community!

Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital

Volunteering at the Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital has been a truly heartwarming and enriching experience. Engaging with the elderly patients at the hospital, I discovered the profound impact of simple acts of kindness and the power of artistic expression. Leading painting and gardening activities allowed me to witness the transformative effects of creativity on their spirits. The joy and laughter that emanated from our shared moments with Mdm Wong was a testament to the therapeutic nature of these activities. Beyond the strokes of a paintbrush or the cultivation of a garden, the connection forged through these experiences was equally significant. In those moments, I found that fostering creativity and connection with nature transcended the boundaries of age, becoming a source of mutual understanding and shared happiness. Volunteering in this capacity has not only brought light to their lives but has also left an indelible mark on my own, reminding me of the profound beauty in human connection and the therapeutic power of compassion.

MOM-MOE: Migrant Workers Befriending

In August 2022, 18 migrant brothers came over to SAJC and my class had the honour to host them! Through icebreakers and an amazing race, we got to bond and be friends with our migrant brothers. After conversing with them and making friends with them, I got to know more insights about their daily life that I would not have known before this. They had lots to share about their lives and the various hobbies they have. The migrant brothers were extremely sociable and I truly enjoyed my time hosting them. We then ended the day with a pizza party and gave them handwritten notes wishing them well. This event totally changed my perception of migrant workers and I look forward to attending such service events in the future.

Toa Payoh Heights Veggie Rescue

Every fortnight Friday,  I would join my dad and other resident volunteers to head down to Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre to collect boxes of unsellable produce from vegetable and fruit suppliers and pack them according to the different types of vegetables. We will then transport them to the needy in my residential area and charitable organisations. This event has made me aware of the huge amount of food wastage that happens in Singapore on a daily basis and the vast amount of people that are unaware of it. It has also given me the opportunity to serve the needy in my immediate vicinity and get to learn and know more about their lives.
