Having been apart of sports for most of my life, I understand how collaboration can shape success. New ideas sprout from communication and collaboration amongst students, encouraging diversity of opinions. Education is the most collaborative career as problems are solved on all levels (students, teachers, and admin). Spaces in which students feel the most comfortable sharing their opinions are the ones that have the most collaboration.
In Spring of 2024, the focus in EDU 3001 was primarily on special education and antiracism practices. With both of these two in mind, they demonstrated the vast differences that students can have in the groups they identify with, yet still need to hold the skill of collaboration. Some may struggle with social skills, others may have been taught to be quiet, there is a plethora of reasons for students behaviors when collaborating. However, the most vital aspect of collaboration is that students feel safe and valued enough to voice their opinions, thoughts, and beliefs without the fear of being discriminated against by teachers or classmates. In focusing on antiracist practices, the book Everyday Antiracism by Mica Pollock provide great insight throughout the semester as to how to work towards becoming an antiracist educator.
This video is the final product of the script showcased in the Communication tab. I worked with a classmate to assemble and film this video. We each divided up the roles and asked one another for assistance if we needed.
Collaboration amongst teachers happens frequently, as they work together to provide the best education possible for students. This article details how creating curriculum that reflects antiracist practices, using family experiences and input to best encourage a school of and curriculum based on inclusivity.
