Avanza Summer Bridge

The Avanza Summer Bridge program at Dominican University of California provided proactive support that emphasized academic growth, belonging and personal development. Led by Dr. Lucia León, the program featured a transformative course, “La Lucha Sigue: Educated, Proud, Powerful,” along with coaching sessions and workshops that fostered cultural wealth and empowerment. Beyond academics, Avanza was about building meaningful connections and lasting friendships with peers from diverse backgrounds. We supported one another through challenges, shared countless laughs, and created a community that truly felt like family. The program also offered unforgettable experiences, such as our trip to San Francisco, where exploring the Golden Gate Bridge and vibrant murals expanded my perspective and deepened my cultural awareness. These moments challenged me, broadened my horizons, and made Avanza not just an educational experience, but a memorable and life-shaping journey.

Day in the Capitol

I had the privilege of participating in advocacy efforts at the Capitol with AICCU. During this experience, I emphasized the crucial role of Cal Grant in ensuring equal access to higher education for all students. Meeting with legislators and discussing the importance of providing every student with the opportunity to pursue their dreams through quality education was both enlightening and empowering. I am proud to have contributed to such meaningful discussions and look forward to continuing my advocacy work for education access in the future.

Peer Mentor

Peer mentoring is a wonderful opportunity to connect with first-year students and help them navigate the challenges of their transition to college. My peer mentors were there to offer support and guidance, making me feel welcomed and reassured. Their kindness and dedication left a lasting impact on me, inspiring me to one day provide the same support to others who might be feeling the way I once did.

My goal is to create a welcoming space where students feel comfortable asking questions, seeking advice, and knowing they have someone who cares. By sharing my own experiences and offering the same encouragement I once received, I hope to ease their worries and help them find confidence in themselves.

Student Ambassador

As a Student Ambassador, I represent Dominican University of California by serving as a knowledgeable and welcoming point of contact for prospective students and families. I engage in frequent written and verbal communication to answer questions about admissions, housing, financial aid, campus life, academic programs, and university resources, ensuring the accuracy of all information shared. My responsibilities include conducting weekly campus tours, assisting with on-campus and virtual engagement events, supporting evening outreach calls during the week.

Peer Advisor

I serve as a Peer Advisor for the Psychology Department, where I support students in staying on track with their graduation requirements and personal academic goals. In this role, I act as a resource for course selection, offering insight into class expectations, workload, and different professors to help students make informed decisions.
