"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." – Helen Keller
Collaboration:
Collaboration is the ability to successfully use interpersonal skills and components of literacy. These components of literacy include skills such as reading, writing, speaking, and listening which contribute to teaching, learning, and development.
What This Means To Me:
Collaboration in education, especially as an aspiring special education teacher, means fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment where all educators work together to meet the diverse needs of every student, ensuring they receive the personalized support and resources necessary to succeed academically and socially. It involves partnering with fellow educators, parents, specialists, and administrators to develop individualized education plans (IEPs), implement effective interventions, and celebrate the unique strengths and contributions of each student.
Case Study of an Individual with Special Needs
During the spring semester of 2024, I collaborated closely with students with disabilities. This involved selecting a student with a disability in the classroom I observed, researching their condition, and interviewing our Special Education teacher about her teaching strategies. I also observed this student in a general education class to better understand their experiences. I enjoyed this project and getting to know this student because it highlights the importance of educators working with students of diverse backgrounds, ensuring they feel included and supported in all learning environments.
