Fall 2022: I was unable to start my fieldwork, but I did my service learning and Laurel Dell Elementary school where I got to work one on one with students playing games and teaching them math. Each day I was given an activity to do with the students by the teacher, Mr. Belmont. Getting to work with each student individuallty showed my how different learning styles can effect how the students persive the meateral. I had to get to know each individual student and find a way to teach the students the concept in a way they could understand and make the most out of it. I learned how important it is to get to know your students and how they learn so that all students get the information they need.
Spring 2023: This semester I did my fieldwork at Hamilton Meadow Park Elementary School. I observed Ms. Bardan's 3rd-grade class. Throughout the semester I was able to watch a couple of student teachers teach math lessons and experience PE with the students. During PE the students started with 1 group activity and then got to choose what activity they wanted to participate in. I like that the students were given the opportunity to choose what they wanted to do because they seemed more excited about and invested in the activity. Watching student teachers teach the classes was also interesting. It gave me good insight into what problems I may run into when I become a student teacher and seeing the notes Ms. Bardan gave to them. One of the biggest notes that I heard was the importance of having a structured plan to keep things running smoothly. When the student teacher tried to diverge from the plan students became confused and the lesson was not as productive.
Spring 2024: I did my fieldwork at Terra Linda High School this semester. I had the pleasure of observing multiple classrooms. I observed Ms. White's modified English class, Mr. Robin's AP U.S. History class, and Mr. Slaney's modified Science class. I got to work with diverse students and learned a lot about classroom management and how it differs depending on the students in the class. Mr. Robin's class was a more fast-paced history class, and he showed the content in various mediums. This included videos, images, readings, and art. I was able to witness different strategies for presenting content. Ms. White and Mr. Slaney's classes slowly passed, and they focused more on one-on-one assistance. I learned strategies for keeping students on task and learned how important patience and understanding are in a classroom.
