A True Story of the Holocaust
Nathan Mills is reviewing The Hidden Girl: A True Story of a Holocaust. In his words, "The book is about Lola Rein Kaufman, is also written by her. She grew up in Poland, but when the Nazis invaded Poland, she was forced to move into a ghetto. Her Mom is killed by the Gestapo, but with the help of her grandmother, Kaufman is able to escape the ghetto. She is first hidden by a Ukrainian woman. However, she soon has to flee, and spends many months hiding in a simple dirt hole, all the while avoiding protection.
The book really shows human survival, and also the reality of the Holocaust, in a way that is deeply saddening. A young girl should not have to hide in a dirt hole simply to retain her basic right to life and dignity, but with the Nazis in control, that's what she is forced to do." He also mentions that, "This book is available in our IMC, which is how I gained access to it."
