Sgraffito Plate

Throughout this project, I learned a lot about clay and carving. At first, it was hard for me to figure out how to correctly carve my design into the plate but as time went on it became very easy. The goal of this project was to successfully shape your clay into a plate and take all the following steps without it potentially cracking. My plate turned out well and was actually happier with it than I thought I was going to be. By learning how to carve correctly I can definitely use this in future artwork.

Textured Bowl

The bowl was a fun experience especially since we had to actually fold the square bowl into its shape. Although keeping the sides together was a little challenging but the slip really helped hold it together. What inspired me was being able to freely put any textures I wanted on the inside of my bowl. What I like best is the color of the bowl and how it turned out after the kiln. This can influence other future artwork because I now know how to play with textures.

Personal Logo

Throughout this project, I realized that the process was long. In the beginning, I was dreading the process because I just wanted to get to the designing and painting. Once we got to that point it became way more fun including all the ideas I had in mind. The pieces I add to my letter are all significant things to my life. In the first picture, I have elements of Christmas because that is my favorite holiday and when everything feels joyful. I also added a soccer ball pattern because it has been a huge part of my life ever since I was 5. The dog paw on top represents how much my family loves and cares for our dogs. The last two designs on my letter are from Disney movies that I enjoy.

On this side of my letter, the red turtle represents my Owah who is very important to me and her favorite animal is a turtle. The "I love you" and "love you" are written in my mom's handwriting. The last design that I have is flowers from Spongebob. I grew up watching this with my sister and my Owah for as long as I can remember and still watch it today.
