India Orphan Project

Pre-flection Paragraph

Our Advanced Art Class picked an Orphan from India at random and we are going to either draw with normal pencils, colored pencils, or oil pastels. Then once we are done we are going to ship our portriet to them. I think it would be kinda fun to try oil pastels because I've never tried them before. Since I'm wanting to do oil pastels, It could be challenging and I want it to be my best work since I'm giving it away. I want them to say, "Wow this is amazing."

Pencil Practice

In this method, I used normal pencils to draw Mekah, a 14 year old girl. I really liked how it turned out and I think I would've picked this method except I think it would be more fun for Mekah to receive a colorful picture. In this practice, I focused on making the darks darker and I really really like how it turned out. I really enjoyed doing the lips, piercings, eye, and ear.

Colored Pencil Practice

Using colored pencils is the method I decided I'm going to use. I can work very easily with colored pencils and I'm excited to use them. Once again I really enjoyed doing the eyes, and lips. In the background you can see the pink desgin. I think I'm going to use the same idea because her favorite color is pink and I want it to be bright and fun. I'm very excited to use color pencil.

Oil Pastel Practice

This method was the newest for me. I've never used oil pastels before so it was interesting. I actually really enjoyed it and it was between colored pencil and oil pastel. One thing I did not like about it was that I couldn't add many layers of colors (which is what I like to do). I would put on another layer of a different color to get a specific shade but it ended up peeling of the other color I placed earlier. But after a while I think I got it. Even though I'm not doing oil pastel for this project, I for sure want to use it in the future.

I think this project help me to be more beauty creating because I was able to draw God's work of art and the image of God. It was fun to draw Mehak's unique features and really see how God made her.

Reflection After Finishing the Portrait

This project was really fun to do. I loved blending and coloring with the colored pencils and I'm really happy about how it turned out. I especially thought that the background was really fun to different to draw. I hope that when Mehak gets this protrait, she will be presently surprised. I've never had someone draw my protrait and I think it would be really cool to receive one from someone closer to my age and from another country. If I could say something to Mehak, I would tell her that God loves her, she's pretty, and that I really wish I could meet her.
