Memory Project

Reflection Paragraph:

We randomly selected an orphan from India to do a portrait of and send it to them. I like this project because I think it's really special and will become a memorable moment for them. The most important aspect of this portrait is to make sure it's something they'll love by including the things in their description. This can be considered worship because we are bringing joy to God's children through this portrait. I think to be successful in this project you have to do your best and work hard on the portrait. Not to make it perfect or just like the picture, but to give it some more personalization.

Pencil

I was nervous about the pencil because I wasn't the biggest fan of my own portrait I made in the past. The result was good but since my orphan is so young, I think he would prefer something with color.

Colored Pencil

I liked colored pencil but I wasn't good at blending it. I learned that it didn't really need to be blended but it just wasn't my favorite.

Oil Pastel

Oil Pastels were my favorite because they blended really easily. They go by faster in some parts, but smaller details take a while. It was also difficult for me to get the skin color right, but I figured out what I need to do for my actual project.

Reflection

I really liked doing this portrait because I enjoy using oil pastels. There were some parts that were really difficult like the mouth and nose. It was also hard to get the shadows and coloring right. My portrait doesn't look exactly like the photo, but I think it ended up really well. My favorite part was probably the ear and neck. The ear had defined lines that were easier to follow and the neck gave me more freedom.

I hope my portrait makes Aayush excited and brings him joy. If he is ever feeling unloved, I would want him to look at my portrait and know that he is loved and important. If I could, I would tell him to keep being honest and sensitive because those are both important qualities for a person to have especially at a young age. Not many people really have those qualities so he should hold onto those throughout his life. I would also say that I'm really glad that I got to do his portrait and he seems like a really sweet boy.
