Sgraffito Plate

For this project we used clay to make a plate and then put a colored glaze on it. The next thing we did was carve designs into the plate with an exacto knife. I decided to make it yellow because that is one of my favorite colors. I am happy with the way it turned out and had fun making it.

Textured Slab Lantern

For this project we first had to roll out a flat piece of clay, then we outlined the shape of what we were making on the clay. We got to choose from a bunch of different textures and stamps. The hardest part of this project was putting the sides up because you had to be very careful that they wouldnt break. I love the way it turned out and the color. I had a lot of fun with this project.

Personal Logo

For this project we made a logo that is supossed to be about us and the things we like. I made it in the shape of an M for my name. I had fun making it and like the way it came out.

Realistic Clay Animal

For this project we got to pick an animal and then make it out of clay. I really liked this project and enjoy using clay. The animal I chose to do was an Orchid Mantis. I chose this animal because I think that they are very interesting and pretty. I really liked the way that it turned out.

Foam Carving

For this project we started with a block of foam and then carved it to look like something else. I chose to make mine look like a bag of cheez-its. After I carved the shape I was happy with I then painting and added all the details. I had a lot of fun and really enjoyed this project. I love how it turned out.

Raku Pot

For this project we used coils of clay to build a pot. It took a little while to build it because you had to add a couple at a time and then blend them together really good before you could add more. After we were done building them we sketched out our designs. After we had the design we liked, we then carved them into our pots. After carving our designs we glazed. We had to be very careful not to get any of the glaze into the lines of our designs. After the glazing the pots got put into a big kiln outside and were heated up to almost 2,000 degrees. After they were in there for a while and got nice and hot, Langmaack turned off the kiln and then he would take the pot out and put it in a trash can and someone else would put woodchips in the pot, and another person would throw the lid on. After the pots were in the trash cans for a little bit, someone else would hose them with cold water and then the pots would be taken out a put into a big bucket of cold water to cool off. By doing this process, it creates cool cracks or metallic designs on the glaze and makes the parts that were not glazed, black. I had a lot of fun with this project and really liked the way mine turned out.
