Textured Bowl

This project was an easy and fun way to start of the year. We started by cutting a slab of clay into a bowl with 4 sides. Then cut it out, we picked out our designs and made a design that we liked. Then you would start putting the bowl together. Each side had to be cut at an angle and then score it. To keep the bowl together we put slip on the sides and squeezed the sides together so they would stay. Once each side was up I put clay rolls on the corner to keep it stronger. Then it went into the kilm and once it was finished we painted our bowls a color we liked. Then it went back into the kilm. It was a fun and easy process, not to hard of a project but fun to enjoy and put together.

Sgraffito Plate

For this project it was also an easy and fun project to do. I started out by rolling out clay and cutting it into a plate. I cut the edge of the plate at an angle for looks. Then I smoothed out all the bumps and scratches and added feet on the bottom. Then it went into the kilm and then we picked out a color I liked and painted it. After it was painted with 2 coats, I carved out a stencil design and then scratched out all the leftovers. Once everything was scratched out I coated it one more time with a clear glaze and it went back into the kilm. I really like how my plate turned out. I was not really expecting this bright of a color but I still really like it. Super fun and easy project to enjoy.

Personal Logo

This is one of the projects I was a little stuck on. I wasn't sure with what to do. I didn't really know what described me. But I ended up figuring it out and on this side I put a bible verse, it is not my favorite verse but I still like it. And I put a random design around it because I like how it looked. It is super simple.

I did the mountains because I do love the mountains. I love camping, fishing, skiing and hiking in the mountains.

To make this project I started out with making the box part of my H and little j. Then I sealed the sides with this brown sticky paper to make the sides smooth. Then I covered it is paper towels with glue to make the whole logo smooth. Then I got to the fun part and started painting.

I did the sun because being out in the sun makes me happy. That is why I love summer because it makes me happy. The winter is sad and cold and rainy sometimes. I enjoy being in the sunshine.

This angle shows a lot of my project so on the front it has a bold DJ for my last name. I did the quote life is better when your laughing because it is so true. I did a tractor in the corner because I drive tractor, it is really random. On the bottom you could see cow print because I live on a dairy. And on the top you could see orange with writing and it says God is good all the time. And to the side of that I did a flower design for fun.

Clay Pots

This was a fun week in art. I started out by grabbing a piece of clay and packing it into a ball and throwing it onto the wheel. I learned how to center it, and that was probably the hardest part. Then once it was centered I started making different things, like cups, pots, vases and bowls. Everyday I made something different. Then I learned how to trim each one of my pots. I made a rim on the bottom of each one so it would sit flat. Then they all went into the kiln and once they were fired I glazed each pot a different color and coated it with some shiny stuff. They all went back into the kiln and I took them home. It was a fun week and learned how to work on the wheel, got the hang of it after a couple tries and can't wait to do more.

Realistic Clay Animal

For this project I picked a fish because it reminds me of my grandpa because we used to go fishing all the time. I started out by drawing out the shape of a fish and grabbing a chunk of clay and start shaping it into a fish. Then once it started looking like a fish and I had the fins and gills and eyes shaped, I cut it in half. I started hallowing it out so the fish could be lighter and could stand on the fins. Once I was done I scored and put slip on the cut parts and smoothed it out again. Then I did the details and made the eyes look like real eyes and the lines on the fins and tail. And then the last part before it went into the kiln I put the scales on as texture. After the kiln I painted it to make it look like a real fish.

Realistic Foam

For this project I made nail polish. I started out by measuring the size I needed and cut a piece of foam to match. Then I drew out the measurements of the nail polish and cut it out with ban saw and from there I sanded out the rest of the shape. It was hard to get it to stand straight because it kept looking lopsided. So I sanded for a couple of days and once it looked the right size and shape I started painting it. Then I put the words for a label on the front and finished it off with shining the glass part of the polish.

Paper Lamps

For this project I started out by making a circle out of reeds then went from there. I did not really have a plan and I just started making things up as I went. Once I liked the design that I made I grabbed tissue paper and covered the parts I wanted paper. I had to cut of the leftovers and then put starch on after to make the paper tight and stronger. After all that was done I glued in the lights and I finished. I like how it turned out and the design was simple and small just like I wanted.

Coil Vase

For this project I started out by measuring the base of my pot with clay and from there I started adding coils on top and made out my design. As I was putting coils on I had to smooth it out, once I was far enough I cleaned it up a bit more and scraped of the extra pieces so it was extra smooth. After adding coils and smoothing and I made it to the height I wanted I started making my design. I really liked how it turned out. After the design was on I smoothed out the rough parts again and it went into the kiln. Then I started glazing and picked the crackle white but I wanted the cracks to be black so I could not put glaze in between the cracks and that was probably the hardest part. Then after 3 layers I fired it and it cooled down and I scrubbed off all the smoke and I really like how it turned out.
