overall, people are divided between a 3 and a 5 in terms of rating, with more leaning towards a 3/5. this rating averages out to a 3.8/5, which could convert to about 6 or 7 in an out of ten scale very roughly. I think this makes sense and is a fair rating, as I will get into below. this rating appears to be true and consistent, as if we get the average of all the separate segments put together, we get 4/5 which is only 0.2 points different to just the overall average.
STRUCTURE- structure appeared to be my strongest area, with it receiving on average 30% more 5/5 than the other areas. I also believe it was the strongest part of the script due to the amount of descriptive detail and script techniques used. this appears to be what lines up with everyone else, the only bit of criticism being that you could get lost a few times. the rating for structure averages out 4.6/5
I personally also believe I have achieved a high standard of structure, as I managed to utilize every scriptwriting technique to an effective level while also adding plenty of detail to convey how every scene is conducted.
DIALOGUE- on the other hand, dialogue appears to be the weakest part of the script. on average, it scored 50% more 3 ratings than other segments. the overall issue that seems to be present is that there is not enough dialogue in the script, which I believe appears to be so because of how much more detail there is compared to dialogue. I can definitely work on either improving the amount of dialogue or ironing out and compressing the detail. the rating for dialogue averages out to 3.4/5
I had personally attempted to take a more visual approach to this script, with the story and atmosphere being conveyed with maybe less dialogue than average but with more detail put in the camera shots and environments. I had this approach of as little dialogue as I could, with the actions and detail of the characters and the scenery around them more so establishing what those characters are like. I feel like I achieved that goal, but too well. in hindsight, I have realised that I may have leaned too hard in that aspect and undercooked my dialogue, making it less effective.
PURPOS-purpos was the most mixed segment, with it having 4 separate categories people rated it rather than the usual 2 or 3. overall it scored 50% more 4s than any other rating, therefore it averages out a 3.6/5 rating. it also had the most varied criticisms, ranging from fundamental plot issues to more explanation on the plot needed.
looking back on it my approach for dialogue may have skewered my purpos aswell. I was thinking way too big picture with this script and considered that the people watching the movie would have the whole context of the movie. what I failed to account for was the fact that the people reading the script I wrote as an extract from a early middle part would not know as much, which is what the criticisms seem to indicate. I think this is my most flawed category by far, however to fix this fundamental issue I would need to rewrite the whole script.
LANGUAGE- language had received the most 4s, with 60% of ratings being a 4. the only criticisms were involving it being too long and about a use of more metaphors. I think if I added more metaphors however, it could muddy up the script further as I want to make a clear picture for the director. language averages out a 4.4/5
language was another field along with structure I had excelled at, with the language being appropriate to the scenario both in the dialogue and in the script. the detail gives a clear idea and direction for every aspect of the scene down to the camera angles. overall, I succeeded in the language segment.
FLOW- flow appeared to be the most polarizing of the 5 segments, with most people either agreeing it is a 3 or a 5(and only one person voting 4 in between). the criticisms for the most part are similar to other criticisms, aside from the fact that the script can be confusing. funnily enough, the divisive flow gets an average rating of 4/5
i personally believe flow was done just alright, i just managed to achieve it to a good enough standard. i feel like the script would flow a lot better if it was realised into an actual movie because of all the detail of the visual elements. the paragraphs of detail grind the pace to a halt and make the script seem a lot less coherent than it actually is. perhaps i can streamline the flow of the script by either adding more dialogue inbetween the paragraphs or condensing the paragraphs to only the essential parts. i would still consider this a sucess, though lesser so than the other resounding sucessess.
IMPROVEMENTS- i will take the most valid and pressing criticisms out of this to improve on, as it would take me too long to implement and consider every single one. I think i will overhaul the dialogue and streamline the actual description and details to make them more easier to read and understand. i also need to make improvements in my layout conventions and ensure they are 100% compliant with official guidelines. these appear to be the three most important and consistent criticisms which can majorly improve my script if worked on.
