The Devils’ Pit was packed with students dressed in all black upholding the theme “blackout,” on Friday, September 20th, at the boys varsity football team’s long-awaited home opener. The Clarence Red Devils blew the Frontier Falcons out-of-the-water, with a 49-14 win. Going into the game, Clarence was 1-0 in the league — a win against Kenmore West High School. The Red Devils were hopeful to get their second league win of the season.
“I’m excited to finally play at home,” said Talon Engasser, a left tackle, and two-year varsity starter. “Frontier is a good team that shouldn’t be underestimated. I think if we go in there and do our thing we will beat anyone.”
Quarterback, Bryce Tubin, dominated the time he had on the field, with a total of four hundred and three yards, and six touchdowns. David Van Horn tied the CHS record for receiving touchdowns in a single game with three, and Jeff Long closely followed with two touchdowns of his own.
On the first play of the game, Tubin rolled out of the pocket to find Long, senior running back, for a 71-yard passing touchdown, putting Clarence on the board 7-0.

At the end of the third quarter, Tubin threw a 36-yard pass to Patrick Wind, moving the Devils down the field and into scoring position. On 1st and 10, Tubin threw another pass connecting with Van Horn. Avoiding two tackles, Van Horn crossed the goal line for his second touchdown of the game. Before Tubin was taken out of the game, on his sixth drive, he secured a 42-0 lead with Van Horn’s third touchdown of the game.
The Section Six Class A Champions played sensational on defense and offense, giving them an easy win. Looking forward to next Friday, the Red Devils take on West Seneca West on the road.
